| If you have begun to notice that you have a lot of pictures and mementos stashed away in boxes on your closet shelves or under the bed, then the time has come to take them out and do something more productive with them. The pictures you’ll find probably reflect your hobbies, your youth, vacations, or photos of loved ones and friends and other special events in your life. Pictures say thousands of words but what good do they do when they sit in a box under your bed? Once you make a resolution to get them out, you can start sorting through them and organizing them, and putting them into categorized scrapbooks. A finished scrapbook is a great and inexpensive family keepsake, or can be a priceless gift to someone special. You might find that once your scrapbooking adventures have begun, you will be addicted to this creative hobby. One thing you will need are some basic materials and equipment for scrapbooking, like scissors, various adhesives, albums that can be decorated, decorations for those albums, calligraphy pens for writing, or stamps for stamping, stencils, various little token objects that represent different ideas and events. A friend of mine recently made a scrapbook to commemorate her daughter’s graduation from university; in it were photos of her and all her friends on campus, at various college events, and finally the graduation ceremony itself. All of the decorative touches had a graduation theme to them: caps and gowns, degrees, and the school mascot were used on the cover. Before beginning your scrapbook project, you should write your plan down on a piece of paper so you won’t forget how you want to lay out each page. You can use numerous pictures on your pages or just one or two but include other types of memorabilia such as programs or concert or movie ticket stubs and the likes. Anything that inspires a happy memory in your mind should be used. Writing special phrases on the pages of your scrapbook adds a personal touch, too, as do poems or short stories. Whenever you work on a page of your scrapbook, try to imagine yourself where you were at the place and time you are recalling. You want to capture as much of the spirit of that moment as you possibly can without sacrificing beauty, so think chronologically as much as possible and try to relive moments in your mind before you work on your pages. |
